Anthony Joseph Saladino was born June 04, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Dorris Echols Saladino; son, Anthony S. Saladino; his parents, Carmella and Sylvester Saladino; and brother, Joseph Paul Saladino. He is survived by his brother, Mario Anthony Saladino; sons, Ken Coons and wife Jamie, Bob Gum and wife Marilyn; daughters Susan Hill, Mary Sademan and husband Donnie, Denise Rosse and fiancé Mark Michalak, and Gina Howell; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; numerous cousins; and his beloved pets, Chloe and Missy. Anthony joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 17; he served as a machine gunner in World War II and was active in the battles of Okinawa and Peleliu. He was a purple heart recipient and an American hero. After his military service, he returned to Texas and began his career as a brick mason and was a lifetime member of International Union of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Anthony was an active member of the Elks Lodge #1332 for over 30 years. During that time, he served as Exalted Ruler, Secretary, and was involved with numerous charities. He was known for his quick sense of humor. He was never without a joke or witty comeback. He was a people person and was loved by all who knew him. Anthony was truly the life of the party. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Anthony’s celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home with interment to immediately follow in Forest Park East Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ken Coons, Bob Gum, Joey Saladino, Mark Michalak, Rich Crouse, Toby Millikan, and Harrison Coons. Honorary pallbearer is Mario Saladino.
