Ruth Setzer Russell, 84, entered her Heavenly home surrounded by her loving family and friends on
January 14, 2022 at her residence in Bethel.
Ruth was a loving wife and mother. Ruth was born on April 29, 1937 in Haywood County and grew up in Maggie Valley. Ruth will always be remembered by her easy going and quiet manner. She will especially be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruth enjoyed collecting antiques, loved going to flea markets, and collecting Mickey Mouse treasures. She enjoyed going to Cagles auction, pickin in the park, and she most enjoyed camping and being with her family.
Ruth was a member of the Maggie Valley First Baptist Church and attended the Pisgah Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the 1955 class of Waynesville Township High School.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Effie Setzer, one brother, Verlin Setzer; sisters, Mildred Nelson, Gertrude Sheehan, Bessie Grooms, Sarah McMahan, Lucy Ward, and Opal Mills.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Samuel Russell; loving son, Kelly Russell; and sister, Jane Cable of Maggie Valley.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Haywood County, their kindness and care they gave our precious Ruth, comfort to her and her family as she ended her earthly journey.
Also the family would like to thank, Doris Hall, Shelby Moore, Gary and Debbie Russell and Tracie Brookshire, her loving niece who stayed by her side through her sickness.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Garrett Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Dean officiating. The family will receive friends prior to her service on Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Moore, Randy Hall, Gary Russell, Doug Reece, Joey McKay and Matthew Brookshire. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Cable and Terry Wood.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Due to covid concerns, the family has expressed that visitors wear masks during visitation and funeral services.
