Richard Lee “Waco” Hill passed away on July 28, 2021 at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with Leukemia surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Rick, as he was best known, was born October 28, 1953 in Houston, Texas to the late Waldo and Minnie Lee Hill. He was proceeded in death by his only sibling, Steve Hill. He is survived by his son Travis Hill; his daughter Lacy Reese; his granddaughters Grace Hill and Ella Hill; his daughter-in-law Jessica Hill, and his son-in-law Jon Reese.
Rick was a master carpenter and proud member of the I.A.T.S.E. Union. He enjoyed a long career working in the art departments of Baylor University, the College of Charleston, the Spoleto Festival, and numerous motion pictures and television programs.
Rick was a generous person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved fishing, surfing, traveling, and art. He made beautiful furniture and beautiful children. He loved ice cream, but not ice cream trucks.
Rick was often known to recite his favorite Irish blessing:
May the roads rise up to meet you
May the winds always be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
A celebration of Rick’s life will take place in his adopted hometown of Charleston, South Carolina in the coming months. Details will be provided in a timely manner.
