Iron Duff-Martin Ferguson, 76, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the VA Medical Center Hospice. Martin was born in Haywood County on April 14, 1942, to the late Frank Melvin and Nellie Green Ferguson. He was an avid outdoorsman including fishing, deer hunting, working on hot rods, water skiing and was an accomplished marksman at Asheville Practical Shooting Association. Martin retired from Taylor Ford with 17 years faithful service. He served honorably in the US Army.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ferguson.
Martin is survived by sisters, Theresa Hawn (Earl) and Elaine Ratliff (Wayne); nieces, Amy and Raina Hawn, and Emily Ratliff Osborne (Matt); nephew, Adrian Ratliff; and eight great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Martin’s life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, August18, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Jerry Parks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made in Martin’s memory to VA Medical Center Hospice Unit or to the Haywood County Animal Shelter.
He will be greatly missed by family and an abundance of lifetime friends.
