Waynesville, NC – James “Jim” Riggs, age 78, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. He was born on November 13, 1939 to the late Claude and Josephine Davis Riggs.
Jim retired from Dayco following 30 years of Service. He was an avid Camper, hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church. Jim was a member and Past Master of Waynesville Masonic Lodge #259 and 33rd degree mason and member of Asheville Scottish Rite where he has served in all of the chairs. He was also a member of the York Rite. He received an honorary black belt from the Waynesville Kodokan Judo Club for his many years of service to the sport of Judo. Some of Jim’s most treasured times were family gatherings and especially being around his beloved grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Joyce Riggs; son, Jimmy Riggs (Amy); daughters, Susan Reeves (Kenneth), Laura Bridges (Chad); step son, Randy Stevens (Michele); sister Marilyn Oglesbee (Roger); Grandchildren, Blake and Braden Riggs, Mary and Morgan Reeves, Alyssa and Dylan Bridges; step grandchildren, Warren, Hunter, Savannah, and Marisa Stevens; step great grandchildren, Malia Stevens, Skye Thompson, Lili Thompson, and Mason Boyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Shuford Officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 2:45 pm at the funeral home.
Masonic graveside rites will follow his funeral service at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
