He was born February 17, 1935 in Garards Fort, a son of the late Russell E. and Edythe Strosnider Headlee.
Tom graduated from Mapletown High School in 1952 and West Virginia University in 1957. He was an instructor at the university, teaching logging, lumbering and forest products. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in southern Illinois for a short time.
He moved back to Pennsylvania in 1960, working for his father at sawmills in Delphine and Rogersville. He and his brother Gene started Headlee Brothers Sawmill in 1962 thru 1997.
Tom also worked as a salesman for Nationwide Insurance Company, Heritage Securities, drove bus for Coach U.S.A., partner in Country Living Construction Inc.
In 1975 he was elected the Register and Recorder of Greene County, serving until his retirement in 2013.
Tom was very active in community affairs, co-founded the Center Township VFD in 1963, 60 year member of the West Greene Lion’s Club, helped organize the Pioneer festival in 1996, served as West Greene School Board president for 4 years, treasurer of the Greene County Historical Society (a life member), former member of the Waynesburg Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and Masonic Lodge; Register of Wills and Clerks of Orphans Court Association (longest serving Register and Recorder in the state), 35 year member of the Soil Conservation Service (treasurer), and served on the Community Foundation Board.
On April 20, 1957 he married Pauline Barzanti, who died on November 10, 2011.
Surviving are four daughters, Cindy (John) Curtis of Dry Tavern, Patty Headlee of Mesa, AZ, Judy (Bob) Lynn of Ruffsdale, Amy Headlee (Rick Stegman) of Reston, VA; four grandchildren, Tom (Ali) Curtis, AJ (Tiffany) Curtis, Travis (Riston Benson) Schifko, and Jessi (Jono) Menhart; 7 great grandchildren, Kaylee, Cole, Tanner, Cobie and Ashton Curtis, Josie Menhart, and Grady Schifko; two sisters, Lois Johnson of Garards Fort and Joan Headlee of Washington DC; his longtime companion, Pat Wilson; brother-in-laws, Terry Barzanti and Peyton Middleton.
Deceased are two brothers, R. Gene Headlee and Wayne Headlee; and a sister, Carol Middleton.
Friends will be received on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Milliken & Throckmorton Funeral Home, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370, where funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Lanfer Simpson, officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville.
