Rad is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Donahoo Huffman. Mrs. Huffman also served as his dedicated caretaker in his final years. Rad also leaves behind his sons Dr. Aaron Conrad Huffman (Courtney) and Garrett Lee Huffman (Laura), as well as his grandchildren Jacob, Jillian, Joshua, Bradley and Levi Huffman, and several nieces and nephews.
Rad is predeceased by his brother, Dr. Charles R. Huffman.
Rad was born on Oct. 25, 1935, to the late Blake Blair Huffman and G. Conrad Huffman, Sr., of Waynesburg. He and loving wife Ruth were wed on June 28, 1971, at Highland Brethren Church in Marianna, Pa. by Rev. James Donahoo.
Rad graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1953 and earned a degree in business administration from Waynesburg College in 1957. Rad completed his formal education at Aetna Life and Casualty School in 1958.
Rad worked for 42 years at Huffman Insurance Agency, which became Huffman-Whipkey Insurance Agency, from 1958 to 2001.
Rad served as a multi-year board member of the Community Concert Association and was an avid fisherman, bowler and card player. Truly at home on the water, his favorite sports were on Conneaut Lake in northwestern Pennsylvania and at Camp McIntosh, which is situated on the shores of the French River in Ontario, Canada. Rad landed many a prized catch with his “Huffy Harness”, a fishing lure tie that he developed.
Fishing was truly Rad’s passion, and he eagerly shared it with his family and friends, including Garrett, who remembers his father as his favorite fishing buddy since the age of five.
When not on the lanes or on the lake, Rad developed a passion for watching the game of basketball, particularly those coached by his eldest son Aaron. The late Mr. Huffman even accompanied Aaron on recruiting trips when his health permitted.
Above all else, Rad is remembered as a friendly, animated master conversationalist, who enjoyed sharing his deep cache of stories and anecdotes that he collected over a long, well-lived life.
Private funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Behm Funeral Home, Waynesburg. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, officiated by Rev. Dr. David Bess, at First Baptist Church, 303 W. High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
