Mary Charlotte (Flesher) Fitzgerald, 82, of Waynesboro passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Sugar Grove, WV, on August 9, 1937, a daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Ethel Gray (McCray) Flesher.
Mary was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School Class of 1955. On January 27, 1956 she married James C. Fitzgerald, whom preceded her in death. Mary worked in the cafeteria at Berkeley Glenn Elementary until her retirement. She was an avid baker, blessing people with cakes for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. Mary was also very thrifty and greatly enjoyed cardinals.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Russell Frankin Flesher, Beulah Juanita Painter, Betty Lou Lucas and William Ona Flesher.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Doug Fitzgerald and wife, Julie and James “Jimmy” C. Fitzgerald, Jr. both of Sherando; siblings, Nancy Louise Pleasants of Waynesboro and Roger Dale Flesher and wife, Nellie of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Kelly Michelle Johnannesen and husband, Wesley of Warrenton, Catherine Tiffany Benamati and husband, Mike of Greensboro, NC, Ciara Fitzgerald Collier and husband, Daniel of Lyndhurst; Lynzey Alane Whitlock and husband, DJ of Lyndhurst, Lacey Jaymes Fitzgerald of Lyndhurst, Lilley Tomas Fitzgerald of Norfolk, Rachel Fitzgerald Mayo and husband, Cody of Staunton, and Brandon James Fitzgerald of Stuarts Draft, Ethan Parker Fitzgerald of Lyndhurst; 13 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Stacey Burkholder officiating. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Berkeley Glenn Elementary School.
