 Obituario de John Lee Harmon
John Lee Harmon, 72, of Waynesboro passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Born August 21, 1951 in Marion, VA, he was a son of Mary (Harmon) Barr and the late Wayne Elwood Diamond. On January 29, 1994 he married Betsy Ray Rexrode. The two shared 30 years of wonderful marriage together. Prior to retirement, John was employed by Verizon for 36 years where he worked as a system analyst. John had a love for people who quickly became friends as he never met a stranger. He was one of the easiest people to talk with and often relished doing just that with family and friends. Sometimes those talks led him to fine dining experiences which he loved or to experiencing a new place. Along with his wife, the two shared a deep love for music and traveling together to places such as Paris, Italy, California and Colorado. He was tech savvy and loved learning and using all the latest technology. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, PawPaw, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Phyllis Harmon; brother, Steve Barr; stepfather, James Barr; and three very close friends, Ken Draper, Spike Johnson, and Joe Thomas. Survivors include his loving wife, Betsy R. Harmon of Waynesboro; two daughters, Paige Ward and husband, Kris, of Lexington and JoAnna Sparks and husband, Josh, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Landon Dowdy and Caeden Sparks; mother, Mary (Harmon) Barr of Roanoke; three sisters, Kristie Miller and husband, Mark, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Vickie Gearheart and husband, Tom, of Roanoke, and Pam Edwards and husband, James, of Murrells Inlet, SC; close friends, Ron Owens of Florida and Don Roberts of Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews; and his furry friend, Milo. Following cremation, per John’s wishes there will be no formal visitation or services.
