Jim W. Pruett, 72, of Waynesboro passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born December 17, 1941 in Eastman, GA; he was the son of the late Hazel (Whited) Robertson. On June 27, 1964 he married the love of his life and best friend, Lynn (Lamb) Pruett. The two shared a blessed union of 50 years together. He attended his beloved Georgia Tech University, where he graduated in 1965 with a B.S. in Textile Engineering.
Mr. Pruett was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church. As a church member he sang in the choir, previously taught Sunday School and Saturday Church School for many years, served on the Staff Parish Board, and attended to the outside property of the church always maintaining its beauty. He was employed with the former I.E. DuPont where he worked as the Safety Director for 33 faithful years until his retirement in 1998. He currently worked as the Safety Director with Mather’s Construction Company. He was a member of the Waynesboro Choral Society for 20 years, the Waynesboro Country Club and the Jaycee Club of Camden, SC, where he served as past president for all three organizations. Jim spent his younger years actively coaching Pop Warner Little League Football. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing sports, cheering on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and rooting for his grandchildren in all of their various sports. He will be remembered by those who knew him as someone who always enjoyed life to the fullest and carried a smile everywhere he went, never meeting a stranger.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Rowland and Jack Pruett.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his three devoted daughters, Terri Lynn Pruett-Drewry and husband, Ian of Richmond, VA and their son, Jackson Pruett Drewry, Jami LeAnne Pruett-Whitehead and husband, Jim of Houston, TX and their children, James “Jake” Whitehead and Jacy Kathryn Whitehead and Dendi Trey Pruett-McNeary and husband, Rob of Stuarts Draft, VA and their children, Christopher Tyler Brydge and Jessica Lynn Fitzgerald and husband, Ryan and their children, , Rylynn Fitzgerald and Trey Fitzgerald.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian with Rev. Clay Knick officiating. At Jim’s request, he would like all those in attendance to wear casual colorful clothing. Those in attendance are invited for lunch at Main Street United Methodist Church following his service.
