Born in Staunton, Virginia on March 8, 1940, he was the son of the late Walter Rowe Glesner and Mae Sensabaugh Glesner Blake.
Jerry spent most of his childhood in Roanoke, Virginia; graduating from Jefferson High School in 1958 and then continuing his education at VPI/Virginia Tech where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets, L Company - Class of 62. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. Jerry always took great pride in being a Hokie!
On October 10, 1964 at Charleston Air Force Base, SC he married Mary Louise Antley of Orangeburg, SC. The two shared 57 happy years of marriage together.
He joined the US Air Force, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War, stationed at Da Nang AFB, and rising to the rank of Captain before entering the civilian workforce, beginning at Bendix Field Engineering in Owings Mills, Maryland. He then worked for General Electric in Salem, Virginia, Square D Company in Monroe, NC, and finally retired from GE/Genicom in Waynesboro, Virginia as a systems analyst.
Growing up in Roanoke around the Norfolk Western railroads, Jerry developed his life-long love of trains and railroads and always enjoyed sharing his railroad knowledge and train layouts with his friends, and especially with his grandchildren. His interest in photography found him with a camera slung around his neck on numerous occasions and occupied a major portion of his time before and after retirement, providing his family with many wonderful visual memories. In his final years, Jerry was always ready to reminisce about his life, and he found solace in reading and seriously studying the Bible.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles A. Blake; his stepmother, Jane Brown Glesner; and half-sister, Elaine Glesner Hammond.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou, and their three children, Sharon Glesner Brown (Barry) of Hadensville, VA, Jill Glesner (Fred Zellmer) of Waynesboro, VA, and Scott Glesner (Nicole) of Winston Salem, NC. His three grandchildren, Trevor Brown, Dustin Brown, and Bailey Glesner were the pride and joy of his life. They will always cherish the memories and legacy left to them by their Grandpa. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Maureen Glesner Dyer of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends and family from 2 PM until 4 PM on Sunday, April 24th at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
There will be no formal services.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks and gratitude to Dr. George Damewood, for providing special medical care for Jerry, and much appreciated support for his family; to an angel of a nurse, Stacey Nichols, for comforting Jerry with song and scripture in his final moments; to Mike Rexrode of Buena Vista, VA who gave Jerry friendship when he needed it the most, and to the special nursing students “in green” for their care and their time listening to Jerry’s many stories. And finally, to the nursing and PT staff of Kings Daughters, and to the receptionists who greeted us every morning with smiles and words of encouragement, we do thank you.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
