Born May 27, 1928 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Whitelaw Reed and Avice Idonia (Dooms) Pforr.
Prior to retirement, Gladys was employed with Augusta Health where she worked for 36 faithful years as a laundry aide. She was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro. Gladys had a heart for saving animals and deeply enjoyed all of her cats she adopted through the years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Johnson; son, Anthony Wayne Bitner; brothers, Reid, George and James Pforr; and sisters, Della Mae Reid, Emma F. Layton and Effie V. “Ginny” Pforr.
Survivors include her three children, Lisa Johnson Fox of Broken Bow, NE, Deborah Bitner Craun of Waynesboro and Walter A. Bitner, Jr. and wife, Mary of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Eric, Michelle, Stacey, Raymond and Barbara; five great grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. Following the visitation, there will a procession from the funeral home to Augusta Memorial Park where a graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Beck officiating.
