Eleanor Mae Rinaca Sampson, 88, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Augusta Health Medical Center while in the loving care of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah. She now rests in peace with her beloved husband of 30 years, Roy Lee Sampson, who preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. Sampson was born in Page County, Virginia on May 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Patrick Henry Rinaca and Emma Frances (Griffith) Rinaca. Eleanor was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Eleanor loved the Lord, enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible and daily devotionals.
She had a career as an executive secretary for Wayn-Tex in Waynesboro as well as served in secretarial roles for the Waynesboro City Sheriff’s Department and other small businesses in the area. Having raised four sons of which she was very proud of, she loved being with her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to family reunions and assembled a Family Book tracing the Rinaca ancestry to share with generations to come. She also loved being of service to others, volunteering when needed and giving back to the community, such as her volunteer work with United Way fundraisers.
In addition to her husband and both parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings: Phillip H. Rinaca, Inman I. Rinaca, Vivian R. Morris, Margaret R. Higgs, Kenneth W. Rinaca, Dorothy R. Bass, Lynn G. Rinaca, and Gerald S. Rinaca; a son, David N. Frazier; and a grandson-in-law, Ian King.
Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey L. Frazier and his wife Debbie of Waynesboro, Joel K. Frazier and his wife Jennifer of Fort Defiance, and Douglas M. Frazier and his wife Teresa of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; three brothers, Allan E. Rinaca and his wife Margaret of Shenandoah, Melvin E. Rinaca and his wife Jean of Shenandoah, Charles V. Rinaca of Shenandoah; twelve grandchildren, Sandy Griffin and her husband Jeremy, Jessica Velasco and her husband Abe, Kyle Eppard, Kaitlin Eppard and her fiancé Scott Andrews, Beth McLean and her husband Jim, Heather King, Courtney Frazier, Daniel Frazier and his wife Erin, Jonathan Bryant and his wife Kasey, Chasen Bryant, Christina Frazier, Jillian Stickley and her husband Dillon; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a number of very special nieces, nephews and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6pm – 8pm on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street, Waynesboro, Virginia. A service will be conducted by Pastor Paul Pingel at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 South Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, Virginia. Interment will follow the service at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
Pallbearers include Daniel Frazier, Jeremy Griffin, Eric Rinaca, Robert Ellis, Scott Andrews, and Charlie Warr.
