Born April 4, 1936 in Afton, she was the daughter of the late George Elliott and Nancy Jane (Kornegay) Gray.
Mrs. Graves was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church, Batesville, VA. Barbara graduated from Greenwood High School in 1953, the last graduating class from Greenwood. She was the co-founder of Diversified Communication Services, a family owned business, where she worked alongside her husband. Barbara and her husband Bobby were dedicated supporters of the children and families served at the Waynesboro Family YMCA providing critical resources during the Y’s most challenging times. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by everyone who knew her. The things that brought her joy were spending time with her sons, their families, and her sister and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Deane Graves on January 25, 2012.
Survivors include her children, Anthony Graves and wife, Twittie, Mark Graves and wife, Madelyn and Jeffrey Graves and wife, Pam, all of Waynesboro; sister, Betty Rainey; seven grandchildren: Erica Graves Kapinus and husband, Jake, Melanie Graves, Michael Graves, Alex Graves, Allison Graves, Anne Graves, and Logan Graves; three sisters-in-law, Pat Graves, Helen Graves and Anne Graves Hunter; special cousin, Kenny Gray; 13 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Pastor Liz Buxton officiating. Burial will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens, Charlottesville, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
Active pallbearers will be Alex Graves, Michael Graves, Bruce Hunter, Robert Hunter, John Rainey and Larry Rainey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Gray, Jake Kapinus and Andrew Riley.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to her caregivers: Dee Barry, Jolynne Bond, Barbara Bryant, Amber Johnson and Edith Thomas.
