Willy Joseph Cancel, born on August 12, 1999 in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, tragically passed away on April 26, 2022, in Oleksandrivka, Ukraine. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother, whose deep love for his family and country left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Willy was a true patriot and cherished the values of service and sacrifice, proudly following in the footsteps of the Marine Corps, where he began his journey. He took his first steps on the grounds of Camp Lejeune and carried the spirit of the Marines with him throughout his life. His passion for history, particularly the Civil War, made him a true “History Buff,” always eager to learn and share his knowledge. Willy enjoyed reading books on historical topics, spending hours engrossed in war movies, particularly The Pacific, and was always ready for an adventure at the rifle range.
A man of many talents and interests, Willy was an “Old Soul” who enjoyed spending time with his father working on cars and listening to Doo-Wop music. His quiet strength and unwavering dedication to those he loved made him a cherished presence in their lives.
Willy is survived by his beloved wife, Brittany Stambaugh, and his son, Anthony Joseph Cancel. He is also mourned by his father, Willy Cancel, Jr., his step-mother, Lisa Cancel, his mother, Rebecca Kirby, and his paternal grandparents Willy Cancel, Sr., and Maria Cancel, and his sisters and brothers, Amorianna Tietze (and her husband Devin), Giana Cancel, Michael Cancel, Logan Cancel, and Scarlett Cancel. He leaves behind many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
