William E. Flynn, Jr., a longtime resident of Washingtonville, NY, formerly of Palisades Park, NJ, passed away on February 8, 2024. He was 92 years old. William was born on January 18, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late William E., Sr. and Alice A. (Powers) Flynn. William attended Boston University where he was a student athlete playing for the Terriers baseball team during the 1951 – 1954 seasons. After college he served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. Before his retirement, William worked as the Director for Parks and Recreation for the Borough of Ridgefield, NJ for over 28 years (1966 – 1994).
He is survived by his sister Gail Flynn of Cambridge, MA and his children, William III of Washingtonville, NY, Thomas A. (Rachel) of Morristown, NJ, Jennifer Klug (Glenn) of Kilmarnock, VA and Allison Robins (Thomas) of Glen Rock, NJ.
He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, Josh, Azaria, Carleigh, Gavin, Ryleigh, Olivia, Sean, T.J., Lena, and Quinley, many nieces and nephews as well as other extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Margaret (McNeil) and sisters Joan Shaughnessy and Claire Adams.
William was a well-known patron at his local Washingtonville Pub (Hook & Ladder Saloon) where he was treated like family and made life-long friendships. Despite his time in the NY/NJ area, William never lost touch with his New England roots and spent many years at their family vacation home in Alexandria, NH.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13th from 3-7pm at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY 10992. Interment will be scheduled at a later date at Homeland Cemetery in Bristol, New Hampshire.
