A Veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Abraham Lincoln, he continued his public service as a Detective with the Rockland County Sheriff's Department for 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Deborah (Gorzka) Stach, his children: Kelly Ann Stach, Stephen T. Stach, Thomas J. Stach and Kori Ann Stach; his grandchildren: Tommy, Brian and Laura, and numerous family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen M. and Viola (Kelly) Stach, as well as his sister, Judith (Stach) Vanatta and stepbrother, Robert Cohan.
A family statement reads:
"Steve was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend who was devoted to his family. He had an undeniable passion for life that continued even as he was diagnosed and battled lung cancer. His determination, strength and love will forever remain in our hearts."
