 We are so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was a great and knowledgeable man. Enjoyed talking with him when we saw him at family outings, and when He and Jennie came north to see my Mom. Our Deepest Condolences and love to all of the family. RIP John.

My sincerest sympathies to the Forbes family.  I remember being raised in the same neighborhood with Johns children. We have lost many now from there but the memories will always be with us.  Peace be with you John Sr. (M.C.)

Dear Lenora, Jack & Dawn,

Beverly and I extend our condolences at John's recent passing. When we bought the house next door, John immediately made us feel welcome and at home. He parked his Mustang in the driveway, until we closed on the house, to make people think someone was living there. Then, the day we moved in, he and Jenny stopped by with a welcome bag of extra fruits and vegetables they had picked up from the farmer's market. 

John was often the wise, old uncle or surrogate grandfather to our son. And, then a few years later, he resumed that role for our grandson.  Even for me, at many times, he served as my confidant and sage.

Before we paved the driveway, I cannot count the number of times I would look out back and find John driving across the yard with his riding mower, smiling and waving to me.

I will always look back fondly at our countless conversations in the parking area next to my driveway, where we solved all the problems of the world.  I can recall one such time when we heard "Hi, John! Hi, Grandpa!" coming from my grandson who was in  the upstairs bathroom. Although pitched on his throne, Jack D. had to make certain he was included in our conversation. I still remember John's big broad smile as we both laughed. 

John was my "validation" in Washingtonville. Whenever I spoke with a local, or long term resident, the moment I mentioned that I lived next door to John Forbes, I could see a relaxation and felt an acceptance that now I was "one of us".  

I am only sorry that, the day we moved, John wasn't up to receiving visitors so, we couldn't give him a proper goodbye. We had plans to see him when we visited NY later this year.

Godspeed good neighbor and good friend.

I remember going to bbqs and family get togethers seeing uncle john there was the highlight of the night. He always had a smile on his face and knew how to make everyone happy.
