Diane was the oldest of three children born to Agnes and Anton Schmitt in Bronx, NY on July 14, 1943. She was a 54 year resident of Orange County. She was married for 50 years to the love of her life, Bill, who predeceased her.
She attended St. Raymond’s Grammar School and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1961 and went to work at Colgate Palmolive Co. She married Bill in 1964 and moved to Washingtonville, NY in 1968 and then to Blooming Grove in 1978. She worked at Chester Cable in Chester, NY for many years ending up at Balchem Corp., Slate Hill, NY where she was Vice President of Sales before retiring in 1999.
Diane was an avid reader of books especially ones depicting the Royal Family in England and books about the Victorian Era. She could toe to toe on anyone with her knowledge of history. She was also very involved in many arts and crafts including knitting, needlepoint and drawing. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She dearly loved her animals. At various points in her life, she had birds, gerbils, dogs and cats. She will be missed by her latest pet cat, Shadow.
She will be sorely missed by her sister, Joan Schmitt of Chicago, IL, her brother, Tony Schmitt and his wife, Tricia of Monroe, their two sons Anton (Samantha), Chester and Jeffrey of Monroe and two grand nephews, AJ and Jack. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Agnes Schmitt and her husband, Bill Powers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 9-10am at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville. NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the visitation at St. Mary's Church also in Washingtonville. Private Cremation and Burial will follow.
