STARK William Albert 1948-2018 William A. Stark, who was known as Bill, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Hospital surrounded by family. Bill is survived by his beautiful and loving wife Sharon Stark, daughter Catharine (Steve) Andricos, son Jack Stark, three granddaughters Olivia, Lucy and Emily Andricos, brother Bob (Lynn) Stark, sister Barbara (Chris) Telge, nephew, Ian (Ashley) Telge, and niece, Kelsie Telge.
Bill was born on February 27, 1948. He was the son of Albert and Beth Stark of St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri and embarked on a career in public accounting with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG). Bill then discovered a love for banking and he filled many roles including comptroller and CFO before embarking on a late career in public service. As a senior executive of the FDIC in Washington, DC, Bill traveled the world participating in the development of domestic and international banking policies before retiring in 2008.
Bill proudly served his country with the Army First Calvary Division during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart after being wounded in combat in 1970. His commitment to his country never waivered and he was extremely proud of the men and women who continue to defend the freedom and opportunities afforded to him as an American.
Bill set high goals for himself, and he achieved them. He spent his last 10 years in retirement living at the beach in Sandestin, Florida. He played golf several times a week, enjoyed good wine and poker regularly, and traveled the world with his beloved wife Sharon. Bill shared his good fortune through his support of charitable organizations, including: the Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, which provides for children in need; the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which supports efforts to stop cancer before it starts; and Dog-Harmony, which provides for the well being of dogs. Bill was most proud of the wonderful adults Jack and Catharine have become and cherished his time with his family (especially his granddaughters) and his dog, Bogey.
Services in honor of Bill’s life will be held at Joesph Gawlers Son’s, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.
