Mayra Hunot Addison joined God’s embrace on August 2, 2021. The cause of death was complications from a brain aneurysm. She passed peacefully, with her husband, Dan, and her two children, Daniel and Alexa, by her side.
Mayra was born on October 9, 1963, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Miguel and Marisa Hunot. She lived in Argentina until 1985, when she completed her undergraduate degree in industrial engineering at the University of Buenos Aires. From there, she moved to Berkeley, CA, to complete her Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
She then moved to Washington, DC, in 1988 to begin work as an international consultant to multilateral investment institutions, government agencies, and private sector utilities. Her emphasis was energy infrastructure and environmental sustainability. She set aside her flourishing professional career in 2001 to devote herself to family. And then in 2012, she transitioned back to her professional career to teach her areas of expertise at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.
Mayra met the love of her life, Dan Addison, in 1996. Dan had previously worked for the Reagan Administration in the White House. Dan knew instantly this gorgeous Argentine with Renaissance sensibilities would be the love of his life, too. The actual moment they met was a White House Christmas party, which is fitting: the seeds of her devotion to her husband were sown at an event that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, for whom Mayra had eternal devotion.
With the blessings of Christ, Mayra and Dan brought two beautiful children into this life: Daniel was born in 1999, and Alexa joined them in 2001. Daniel is currently completing a dual degree in economics and engineering from Claremont McKenna, in Claremont, CA, and Columbia University in New York, NY. And Alexa is currently attending the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA, where she is majoring in sociology and pre-law. In addition to Dan, Daniel, and Alexa, Mayra is survived by her brother, Axel Hunot, who resides in Costa Rica.
While family and friends will miss Mayra terribly, Mayra always made clear that she never feared her death, for she knew that the Kingdom of Heaven awaits for all of us. We will all see her soon. In the meantime, we will cherish the memory of her devotional beauty, steely loyalty, and kind soul.
