Mary Frances Walsh Meidlinger passed away peacefully on February 3, 2022 after a courageous struggle against injuries sustained in a car accident. She was born and raised in Brookline MA, the loving daughter of the late Elizabeth (Doyle) Walsh and Joseph Vincent Walsh. She is survived by her son Leo Walsh Meidlinger who is the light of her life and her siblings Kate Walsh, Elizabeth Nelligan, Joseph V. Walsh Jr., Caroline Hughes and their spouses, her nieces, cousins and many friends and colleagues around the world. After graduating from Yale University, Mary embarked upon her exciting 30-year career as a news producer for ABC. At ABC Mary met the love of her life, her husband, Leo James Meidlinger who preceded her in death. Mary’s career took her from New York City to the Washington Bureau of ABC news and it is not an exaggeration to say that she traveled to every corner of our world. Mary loved her career and her colleagues and friends, their adventures and the thrill of breaking news and sharing the stories that should be told. Mary embarked on a different kind of adventure when her son Leo arrived. For the past 14 years, he has been a source of endless joy, laughter, light and love. Mary loved his friends, their families and in classic Mary fashion she threw herself into his many activities, sports and adventures. That is the magic of Mary, her charisma, intellect, humor and kindness made all of our lives brighter and more interesting. Mary was friendly, fierce and so, so funny. Our family has been supported since her accident by friends of Mary from all walks of her life, high school friends, college roommates, work colleagues, neighbors and family friends. We are so grateful to all of you. We hope you remember Mary whenever you read a well reported news story; hear a mom laughing with her son, sing along with the car radio or cannot stifle the urge to dance. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Joseph Gawler Sons 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington DC 20016 at 11am on Saturday February 12, 2022. Please share your memories of Mary at www.josephgawlers.com.
