Gannon, Mary Field – died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at her Bethesda, Maryland residence at the age of 89. Mrs. Gannon was born and raised in Northeast Washington. She was a graduate of Holy Name School and St. Cecelia’s Academy. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the former Dumbarton College of the Holy Cross in Washington. Mrs. Gannon lived in Bethesda and Ocean City, New Jersey. She was a member of the Church of the Little Flower in Bethesda and had been active throughout her life in a number of Catholic organizations. She had been a member of the Kenwood Country Club. She was the widow of Gilbert E. Gannon and mother of the late Gregory Field Gannon. She is survived by her daughter, Patti Gannon Garayta and husband Jorge Garayta; son, Rick Gannon and wife Dana; daughter-in-law, Maureen Gannon; ten grandchildren, Christina Sommer, Jorge Garayta III, Patrick Garayta, Katie D’Urso, Colleen Gannon, Mary Virginia Garayta, Megan Fitch, Margi Gannon, Shawn Gannon and Matthew Gannon; eleven great-grandchildren. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Gannon family residence on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for those who would like to share a memory. The family will receive friends at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 12’oclock noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower at 12 o’clock noon on Thursday following the receiving of friends. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1212 New York Avenue NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005 or to the Washington Jesuit Academy, 900 Varnum Street NE, Washington, DC 20017.
