I write to wish my dearest sympathies and condolences to the family and loved ones of Mark Alberta. He was a kind man and dear colleague. His memory will live on. And I hope you find peace and comfort in the times shared with him. Will keep you all in my prayers.

Cesar and I were deeply saddened to learn of Mark's passing. 

I have known Mark since April 1990 when I became an associate at Arent Fox where he was a partner. He, Brian and Ken had a special home in Maryland, and I spent a great deal of time enjoying its beauty and the fun parties thrown. Together we bid goodbye there to his beloved Ken. We also said goodbye to his great friend John Fling together. We grew close.

Mark was a dedicated member of the Yale Glee Club and traveled the world with them. Their National Cathedral Concert of the Bach B-Minor Mass will forever be in my memory, as his section gracefully intoned "et factum est" in the Credo. He gave so much to the Glee Club for decades and was a proud and honorable alumnus of Yale. 

He was truly beloved and respected at Arent Fox. 

We bought houses in DuPont at the same time,  designed by the same architect. His majestic place on Bancroft saw legendary dinner parties and the infamous First Ladies Ball. He was surrounded by the pleasantly wicked, tossing wit and bon mots with reckless abandon. It was to Bancroft that we returned the day we buried his father at Arlington, and that same day I had my first date with my husband, Cesar. It holds many special memories. 

With many fun friends like the late great Ed Johns, we traveled to New Orleans and frequented Rehoboth and generally made an art form of carousal with class, inspired by Mark. After Cesar and I moved to New York,  Mark found and married Fredo, and it was a joy to be at their wedding at the home of Bret Limage. He visited our home in New York and I hope our party was up to his standards. 

We last dined with Mark in Miami, Beach a year or so ago, and he was genuinely happy in a life that had him working on improving a house in Havana, Cuba.

I am proud to have had in you a brilliant mentor, partner, and friend, Mark. I am sure that the world will not see the likes of you again. 

A fond farewell, Mark, truly fond, from both me and Cesar. 

I remember Mark from our time at Yale, and am very sorry to learn of his passing. Please accept my deepest condolences.

I went to high school with Mark in Chula Vista, CA.  We are working on our 55th reunion & we were trying to get in touch with Mark.  Was very sad to get the email informing us of his passing.  Looks like he had a good life.  That is good.  We will remember him at our reunion.  Rest peacefully, Mark.

Mark and I started as colleagues, but we quickly became close friends. I will miss all our conversations and all the laughter we shared. We talked about food, tv, partying, and most importantly we gossiped. This picture was from November 2022 when Chris and I went to a fancy dinner with Mark just for fun. 

Mark was great party host as attested by many, but also an excellent and inventive party-goer. Here he is 'vintage 2011 Halloween' masquerading as the Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, with our late mutual friend Ed Johns and Yelena Bakaleva. Mark - the gentleman, amateur naval historian, beach house host, raconteur par excellence, not a bad lawyer, by all accounts and friend. We will be raising glass of vintage Leoville Barton in his memory tomorrow lunchtime from Switzerland.

Twenty years of incredible memories: the epic parties at his house on Bancroft Place and the beach house, travels to New Orleans, Europe and Cuba, hanging out in West Virginia, adventures on his Halloween birthday, and our Thursday night dinners. He was the most interesting and multifaceted person I have known. He could talk with authority on so many subjects from naval history to Reggaeton. 

I can not believe your gone.
I have known you for 40 years and will always cherish the time we spent together.  I will always  remember your wisdom, humor and kindness.  Rest in peace dear Mark.  May God have you in his glory. 

My condolence to the family.  I had a fun time talking and working with Mark.  Mark shared some of his knowledge and his time spend with family in Miami.  Mark spoke Spanish with a very good accent.

Mark:  You will be missed.  

My deepest condolences to the Alberta Family.  Mark will truly be missed.  Mark was kind, gentle, and had a great sense of humor.  Let Mark's love and your memories of him, live on in your hearts.  May God give Mark's sweet soul peaceful rest.  

Mark and I began our friendship in the mid-80s.  Over the years and decades, we shared more wonderful times together than can be counted.  While I will miss his greetings of “Jaine-girl” or “Is this the blonde one?”, I will be able to recall his voice along with the years of our memories forever.  Beneath his demeanor,  which could be self-contained at times, lay a truly warm, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor. I will absolutely, achingly miss his friendship and company.

I worked with Mark at Arent Fox and remember him as very kind, funny, and supportive.  As a staff person, I experienced attorneys who viewed us as "second class", but Mark was not ever among them. He treated everyone with dignity and respect no matter what role they played at the firm. I will keep memories of him, and his decency and compassion, in my heart. I hope that his loved ones have memories of him that will bring them comfort during this sad time.
