Madeline Lally Wansley, 91, of Washington DC and Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017, at Knollwood Military Retirement Residence in Washington. Beloved wife of 52 years of the late Lt. Col. Theodore “Ted” Wansley, U.S. Air Force (ret.). Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 9, 1925, to the late Matthew and Anna (Solan) Lally, she grew up in Ozone Park, NY. She worked for the U.S. Army Air Corps at Mitchell Field during World War II and later as an executive secretary in New York City. After their marriage in 1950, Madeline joined Ted on Air Force assignments in Brazil, Massachusetts, Illinois, Japan, and Wyoming, before settling in Cocoa Beach in 1966. She enjoyed painting and was an avid member of the Cocoa Beach Women's Golf Association, a longtime volunteer at election polling stations, and was active in various military family support organizations. She moved to Washington in 2007. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children: Lynn W. Flanagan (Stephen) of Washington; Theodore L. Wansley of Titusville, FL; William J. Wansley (Susan) of Fairfax Station, VA, and 5 grandchildren Brian (Lauren) Flanagan of Beverly Hills, CA; Neil Flanagan of Washington, DC; Matthew Wansley, of Boston, MA; Sarah (Tommy) Wansley of New York City; and Andrew Wansley of San Francisco, CA. She was predeceased by four sisters: Helen Devine, of Medford, MA; Theresa Hagan, of Commack, NY; Cathleen LaVictoire of Flint, Michigan; and Anne Corbett of New York; and three brothers: Matthew, Edward, and Thomas Lally of New York. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, followed by internment at Arlington National Cemetery.
