Mary Ann and family:

I only recently heard about Larry's passing from a fellow lawyer who also interfaced with Larry over many years, as did I.  My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your wonderful family of whom Larry was so proud.
As you may know, Larry and I met briefly at UD, even though I was a couple of years before him. We both went to GW last school, and then we both practiced law both in government contracts and construction, crossing paths many times, and even being on the same legal side a couple of times. I certainly miss his exuberance, his smile and his constant professionalism. A number of our mutual acquaintances have described him as a "true gentleman."

I also note that you and your family have started a scholarship fund at GW law school. While not quite as financially significant as yours, my wife and I have coincidentally started a scholarship fund at UD targeting those students who have traditionally been under -privileged and faced discrimination.  I am so pleased that our own intentions similarly reflect the mission to which you and your family --and Larry -- have been and are so firmly committed.

From the weekend Larry announced his engagement to Maryanne. They were both so happy as we all were to hear the good news. Two great people along with two great kids.

Larry  knew his music and always loved it. It was  the summer of '69 and we had just finished out first year of college ..seems so long ago...  Just one week before " Woodstock"  so we were sure this Atlantic City Pop Fest was the biggest thing to happen that summer. I remember setting up the tent that Friday evening but Larry didn't have time to help,, Janus Joplin was about to go on stage and he rushed off to see her act. Boy ! did he have his priorities in the right order.  He is missed, bless him.

Larry was a  childhood friend. We went to the same school all the way up through high school. He was always a gentle person, kind, humble thoughtful. We had some fun times together as kids. I regret that we lost touch after high school. I saw him at my cousin's wedding in Philadelphia with his son who was enamored with my 2 little neices who were in the wedding. Which was so much fun to see. He wanted to sit at their table during the reception and Larry was fighting to keep him at his table. We all convinced him to let his son sit with them. They danced a lot together. That was a fun time. He looked the same as he did as a teenager he never aged. I may have seen him once at a class reunion.  And was disappointed as were our other classmates when he did not come. He was well liked and loved by many. We will truly miss him. Much love,prayers and best wishes to his wife. Larry was a dear friend of mine during my high school years! He always had kindness to offer and was a great listener. I will never forget how he took care of my father at my wedding ! He certainly was a one of a kind individual that one never forgets! His open heartedness and love for others is part of my memories. Prayers fir his family and loved ones 🙏💐💗

Larry welcomed me to Lewis Mitchell and Moore the Summer of 1980. He nicknamed me "Magic". Always greeted me with "My Man".  We went to Wintergreen to ski with my girl friend and now wife of 35 years with little Larry. He was quite the scene as the only black guy on the slopes in a bright yellow ski suit. With his stamp of approval I proposed to her. He was in my wedding. I cant remember Larry as ever being mad or sad. The last time we saw each other was at Nick's basketball game. My heart is broken. I've lost a dear friend that I hoped to grow old with. The New Years Eve we went out as bachelors was epic. The world is a better place having Larry  and a void without him. God bless his wife and children- what a man= My Man!

I had the good fortune to meet Larry while coaching his son, Zach. Larry was a genuinely good guy. I can’t ever remember not seeing Larry in a good mood. Larry was exceptionally proud of all of his children and was a devoted father and husband. My deepest condolences to his entire family.  Rest In Peace my friend. 

So sorry to hear of Larry’s passing with deepest sympathy. My siblings and I came from a large Military family and were friends growing up with the Harris Family in Browns Mills/Pemberton area. I remembered the last time I spoke and saw Larry.  It was 3 years ago when my brother, Ty Williams, passed away. Ty attended UDayton and served on the Board of Trustees with Larry. How they both loved UD! Larry was so supportive and made time to make sure he was at Ty’s funeral. It meant a lot to myself and siblings of the family bond and memories we’ve shared. Larry’s presence gave us joy and  helped eased our pain.  He will truly be missed but always and forever in our hearts ♥️  Mary Miller on behalf of The Williams Family🙏🏽

We were very sorry to learn of Larry’s passing.  His keen mind, infectious enthusiasm and love for life made him the ideal law partner. Deepest sympathy to Maryanne and the family.

RIP Larry. My thoughts of Larry are of his warm smile and quick wit. We met though AAU basketball. Our sons, who share the same birthday, became friends instantly. A friendship that will last a lifetime. His family was so good to us...We used to laugh often. I love Larry and he will always be in my heart. I will see you again one day, my friend.

Larry truly will be missed by his loving family, and also will be missed by so many who have had the opportunity to know  and to work with him.  Larry touched so many hearts;  as a fellow-partner of his in two firms over a period of more than ten years, I saw first hand, the thoughtful and kind way in which he interacted with others.  For example, when Larry would finish a case out of town and had utilized a local attorney's office and relied on that law firm's staff, he would always send flowers or sweets to the Secretaries and paralegals who had supported him.  He remembered others, and we will miss him. 

Over the last several days I have heard many people say "There should be more people in the world like Larry." To that, my response is, I absolutely agree.  I met Larry professionally in his many roles with the American Arbitration Association.  That professional relationship quickly developed into a friendship. Larry and I always spent the majority of our time talking about family and life in general before ever getting to the business at hand. He spoke of his family with pride and always with a smile. I will certainly miss his humor, his positive energy, his professionalism but mostly his friendship. 

Warmth.  Kindness.  Empathy.  Grace.  Faith.  Those are just a few of Larry's attributes that I think of when I see that photo of him.  He always had a smile and a kind word, and went out of his way to make sure even those he did not know well felt his warmth.  May his long and loving tenure as a Saint Columba usher guide him home.

I am so saddened to learn of Big Larry's passing. We have known each other since the 1970s, and had children at the same time. He was a great friend and a kind spirit. I will especially miss his silly jokes and how he would crack himself up. We all had a great time "back in the day". He will be missed, especially by Howard and Joyce Woodson

I was saddened to hear of Larry's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Larry, and working with him on occassion when I began working at Piper years ago. He was a welcoming and friendly presence as I got adjusted to the firm. We used to joke and laugh that I was the other Mr. Harris as people really didn't know me and I routinely got some of his mail. He was well respected, and even more importantly well-liked. When Larry left the firm, and joined Jackson & Campbell I use to randonly bump into him on the street, or at particlar court or agency. Always had that smile and took the time to chat. My heart goes out to his family and friends. May God Bless his wife, and 4 amazing children. Larry was proof that nice guys can finish first.

Such a good man, always a good friend. I will miss him, May he rest in peace. I'll always remember our camping trip to Atlantic City for a weekend of music with our friends. What we didn't know then. 

I was so sorry to hear about Larry's passing.  He was such a positive force at the law firm and demonstrated his values every day with his kindness and service to others and St. Columba's.  Such a good man. Sending warm thoughts to his family.   



I am so touched by the pictures and memories being shared.  I remember clearly my interview with Larry in 1993 at the GWU for a summer associate position with Pettit and Martin.  It was the start of my law career and  many enduring friendships!  I remember him with warmth and appreciation.  

Sending our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Maryanne, Mikayla, Zach, and the entire Harris/Lavan family. We never saw Larry with anything but a smile on his face and a wonderful and infectious positive energy. So sorry to hear the news of Larry's passing. I remember the last time I saw him was when I drove down to Florida years ago and stayed at your house for the night.  I felt so welcomed and the conversations we had I will always treasure.  Its like the passage of time doesn't affect the connection between the Lavan and Faria families.

Rest in piece little brother--you were a diamond in the rough and didn't even know it. You brought the RHOS a message that we accepted and welcomed. A great brother, football player, and most important human being--please leave me a spot next to you and our Savior.

I was so sad to hear of Larry's passing.  Larry was a splendid lawyer, with a solid reputation for attention to detail and hard work.  Larry was also one of the most genuine guys you would ever meet.  I'd run into him at school events when our daughters were in high school, and was always happy when I could slide into a seat at the table where Larry was sitting.  He'd ask how I was and we'd have a great conversation--every time!  The world has lost a genuinely wonderful man.  My thoughts and prayers are with Maryann and family.

I met him once, years ago but don't  remember where. I do remember him smiling the whole time and after speaking to him I kind of felt like a dummy.  
So articulate and introspective but still very down to earth.  Very impressive man.

Our daughters went through Norwood and NCS together. I was always glad to see Larry at school events - a great guy to hang out with and always infectiously upbeat. He and I served on the Norwood board together, including during some tense times. He was smart, funny, dignified and something we need more of - he had class. And glad he got to see the Nats win the World Series. We will miss you, Larry!

Larry was a delightful, smart and compassionate man who was genuinely interested in supporting others. I will not forget his kind words to me as a young lawyer , his support of my work with the ABA and his welcoming smile whenever I saw him. He helped open doors for me that might not have otherwise been opened. My condolences to Maryanne and family, he was a bright soul who will be greatly missed. 

Larry was a beloved colleague and friend.  I have fond memories of conversations and laughs with Larry, and always appreciated his support and guidance.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends.  With deepest sympathy, Lisa

I am so sad to hear about Larry's passing and the end of a life so full of love and joy.  Larry and I started our law firm experiences together, and he brought fun and laughter to all that he did.  His devotion to family was a wonderful thing to behold, and my heart goes out to all of those family members who, I am certain, will be lost without their North Star.  May all of their precious memories sustain them.  

Larry was a wonderful friend and mentor to me and taught me a lot about litigating cases and how to treat colleagues.  This is a real loss.   To Maryanne and to his entire family, my deepest sympathy and will keep all of you in our prayers.  Mary and Bill Gately   

We have lost a special and unforgettable friend with Larry's passing. Great conversations, ideas, jokes and generosity were his calling cards. He was a solid friend, mentor and partner to me and so many others. He never tired of engaging, for a purpose or just for fun, and always worked to provide comfort to those in need.
