Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Brightview Assisted Living Residence in Rockville, MD at the age of 89.
Don was born and raised in Washington, DC and attended Eastern High School. He attended Ben Franklin University majoring in Finance following his service in the Army.
In 1953, he began his career in banking in Operations at the Munsey Trust Company of Washington DC. His passion for banking and finance led him to become Chairman & CEO of James Madison Ltd. after several years as Chairman & CEO of Madison National Bank.
Don was deeply committed to serving and he served on numerous corporate and charitable boards in Washington, DC for more than 40 years. Most notably, as a trustee for the National Building Museum and Catholic University as well as a Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond from 1986-1988.
He retired in 1990 and then enjoyed travelling and spending time with his family and friends.
Don enjoyed boating and several other sports, but he was most passionate about golf. He was a lifetime member of Congressional Country Club and enjoyed spending his time there socializing and maybe even telling a few jokes while enjoying his favorite cigars. He also loved spending time with his family at Deep Creek Lake for over 30 years.
Don is survived by his wife of 27 years, Diane Menefee, his four children, Michael Menefee and his wife Sotta Menefee, Timothy Menefee, Jenifer (Menefee) Spadafore and her husband Joseph Spadafore and grandsons Joseph and Giovanni and Patrick Menefee and his wife Bernadette and granddaughter Amelia. He is also survived by his two stepdaughters, Dawn Trahern and her husband Skip Trahern and grandchildren Katie, Jackie and Christopher as well as Julie Crotty and her husband Brian Crotty.
