Carlos Alberto Fernandez-Duque

Mr. Carlos A. Fernandez-Duque, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 8, 1940, Carlos Fernandez-Duque, died at age 83 on March 5, 2024, in Washington, DC. He is survived by his two children, Christian and Silvina.

Carlos graduated from law school in Buenos Aires and later received an LLM degree from New York University. In 1970, he married Maria Cristina Stella in New York, and they moved to Washington, D.C., in 1975 with their two children. He worked at the legal department of the International Finance Corporation for over 30 years until his retirement as a Chief Counsel. He was passionate about his career and his family. Carlos was a role model for his children as well as for the numerous lawyers to whom he mentored and guided during his long career in IFC. He will be remembered very dearly by his family and by his many friends and colleagues in the United States, Argentina and other countries.

There will be a memorial gathering on March 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., 20016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sibley Memorial Hospital, Capital Caring Health, or New York University School of Law.
