Michael was the husband of the late Carol A. (Quirk) Sova and the late Judith A. (Heron) Sova. Born in Alverno, Michigan, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Olive (Fenlon) Sova.
A self-made man with an unstoppable spirit, Michael built his career as a self-employed entrepreneur who loved to travel. Most known for his kindness and incredible sense of humor, Michael had the unique ability to bring laughter into any room he entered. His quick wit and charm made him a joy to be around, and his infectious smile will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
Michael began his love of auto electrical work in Detroit, Michigan with his brothers many years ago.
While stationed in Quonset Point in the NAVY, he met and fell in love with his first wife Carol and moved back to Michigan. In 1966, he moved Carol & his children back to Rhode Island and founded Battery Exchange, a battery sales, service and recycling business in Providence, RI. The company is still thriving today after 58 years in business, while being owned and operated by his son Michael Jr for the last 28 years.
It was not just his clear-sighted business wisdom that left an impression, it was also his unwavering generosity and genuine compassion for others.
Michael, being an adventurer at heart, had a deep love for travel and exploration which he shared with his second wife Judy. He had a private pilot’s license and owned his own plane. He embraced every journey as an opportunity to connect with people, leaving an incredible mark wherever he went. Among his many interests he loved boating and hunting with his brothers in Colorado. Michael had a gift for making the world brighter for everyone around him where he lived in Sebago, Maine, Areas of Florida & Rhode Island.
Michael is survived by his loving children, Nancy A. Wolstencroft and her husband Jeffrey, Kathleen M. Almonte and her husband Frank, and Michael J. Sova Jr. and his wife Sandra; his cherished grandchildren, Heather Petrangelo, Jeffrey Wolstencroft Jr., Alexander, Kevin, Michael and Abigale Almonte, Bridget, Sean and Kailey Sova; and three great- grandchildren, Cameron, Cassidy and Sydney. He was the step-father of Denise A. Martin and the late Dawn M. Rodier. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister, and leaves remaining one brother, Maurice Sova and his wife Shirley living in Arizona.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Burial will be private.
