Daniel P. Leamy, age 77, of Exeter, Rhode Island passed away at RI Hospital on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Maryte ( Navakauskas ) Leamy, they were married for 52 years. Born in Providence he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Madeline ( Kiley ) Leamy.
Mr. Leamy served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. As leader of the 7th Cavalry 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam, he earned a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat. Upon return to the states Daniel earned his bachelor's degree from Johnson and Wales through the GI Bill. He would later have a long career as a machinist for Gorham Manufacturing in Providence, he retired when the company finally closed down in 2005.
In addition to his wife he leaves his daughters, Kerrie Place and her husband Allen of Saunderstown, RI, Jane E. Francis and her husband Joseph of Warwick, his adoring grandchildren, Colson Place and Hannah Place of Saunderstown, RI and Joseph and Abigail Francis of Warwick. He also leaves his siblings, Judith Seymour and her husband Charles of Florida, Margaret Vierra and her husband Manuel of Bristol, RI, Michael Leamy of Pawtucket, RI, Richard Leamy of Pawtucket, RI and Ann Leamy of Bristol, RI. Daniel was brother of the late Mary Mayes.
Funeral will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 8:45 am from the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am in St. Rose and Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:00 pm in the RI Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours are Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the funeral home.
