Born in Detroit on May 29, 1960, to the late John and Joan Szczegielniak, Steve lived a full, happy life with Eileen, his high school sweetheart and wife of 42 years, and the family they built together. Steve had a natural talent for fixing things, especially cars and engines. He was perfectly happy to spend his days taking something apart and putting it back together in pursuit of the satisfaction of making things work again. Steve had a passion for hot rods and he loved going on adventures with his family. When his son Mike joined Scouts, he became an avid supporter, serving on multiple committees and always helping out with service projects, camping trips, and anything anyone needed a helping hand (or tool) with. He loved the outdoors, whether it was camping, boating, going on road trips with his family, sitting around the fire pit with his friends from Scouting, or defeating anyone who would challenge him to a round of mini golf. One of his favorite family destinations was Frankenmuth, where he and his family would go to Bronner’s, walk around town and go out for a chicken dinner at the Bavarian Inn afterward. At home, he and Eileen picked among different classic movies to watch together every night. A devoted supporter of his children’s (and grandchildren’s) interests, he always made sure they knew how proud he was of them, by attending all of their concerts, by offering advice and support whenever needed, and by decorating incredibly elaborate and intricate birthday cakes. May he be remembered for his sweetness, his light, and his love for others.
Beloved husband of Eileen to whom he wed on December 19, 1981. Loving dad of Michael (Erin) Szczegielniak and Katie (Adam) Gill. Cherished grandpa of Emma and Owen. Dear brother of Margaret (John) Osinski and Michelle Fernane. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored time with Uncle Steve.
