Stephen Marek age 86 a longtime resident of Warren, died Monday July 30, 2012 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. Stephen was born July 8, 1926 in Blue Island Illinois, the son of the late Joseph and Helen Marek. Stephen was raised in Illinois and later served his country first with the United States Merchant Marine and later in the United States Army having attained the rank of Corporal. Mr. Marek was honorably discharged from both the United State Coast Guard under the Merchant Marine and the United States Army. Following his military service Mr. Marek met the love of his life and settled in Michigan to begin his married life and work for the Railroad. Stephen worked and retired from the Railroad after many years working in the capacity of Railroad clerk. Mr. Marek was the former Railroad Union President and also the former President of the Michigan Merchant Marine Veterans. He would fight for just about anything he felt was worth fighting for, whether it was the worker or just being wrongly accused of catching a short fish. When Stephen was not working his passion was to fish... He would fish just about anywhere and anytime he could. Whether in the winter or in the summer Mr. Marek loved to fish. He also did a bit of hunting with his buddies later in life. As years passed on his focus became his grandchildren and spending time watching them mature and achieve. Mr. Marek was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve, and the dear father of Stephen T. (Nanci) Marek, and David Marek. Loving grandfather of Lorri Marek-Kagan (Jon Kagan), and Brian Marek. Cherished great-grandfather of Max and Amelia. Brother of Julie Marek, and pre-deceased by siblings Esther Kuna, Ed Marek, Walter Marek, and Joseph Marek. Visitation for Mr. Marek will be Thursday 5-9 p.m. and Friday 2-9pm with and 6:30pm Rosary Service at the D.S. Temrowski and Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road).
