Richard Alexander Tomczyk, age 74 a longtime resident of St. Clair Shores, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at Father Murray Nursing Center in Center Line, Michigan. Richard was born January 29, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Alexander Tomczyk and the late Theresa (nee: Paddock) Tomczyk. Richard was raised in Detroit and served in the military during the Korean War. After returning from his military service Mr. Tomczyk worked for over 35 years for several bakeries in and around Detroit and Hamtramck. He was considered by all as a true Old World Polish Baker. When Mr. Tomczyk was not working he loved watching all the cooking shows, food was his true passion. In addition to cooking he was an active member of the AMVETS Post 121 in St. Clair Shores, the Knights of Columbus Lakeshore Council, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Tomczyk loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and in years past he would travel to his cottage in Lexington with his family. Richard was the beloved husband of the late Valera. He is the dear father of Denise Kittell, Cynthia Tomczyk, Keith Tomczyk, Michelle (the late Benjamin), and the late Michael Tomczyk. Mr. Tomczyk is the loving grandfather of Amy, Kristen, Natalie, Erin, Michael, Nathan, and great-grandfather of Ryan, and Zoe. Also surviving is his dear sister Delphine Furtak. Visitation for Mr. Tomczyk will be Monday from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). Funeral Services will also be held Monday evening 7:30 pm at the funeral home, followed by an AMVETS service. Officiating the funeral services will be Rev. Fr. Roman Pasieczny.
