Pat was born in Detroit during the Great Depression. She was an only child and showed an aptitude for music at a very young age learning the harp, piano and organ at the same time. As a young girl she spent many summers with her family in Georgia and Mississippi. In her teens, she was a student at Cass Technical High School and graduated with a music major in 1952. During junior high and high school, she developed a love for the string bass and auditioned for and was accepted into the Scandinavian Symphony under the baton of Dr. Harry Begian. She toured Denmark, Norway, and Sweden with the group when she was only 16. Following high school, she attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri but left school after her freshman year to attend to her parents when her mother contracted tuberculosis. Upon returning home from Springfield, Pat went to work for General Motors in the File Room at Plant 21 in Downtown Detroit. During her time at GM, she met and married the love of her life, Jack Molloy. They moved into St. Clair Shores and began married life. She left GM to start a family and after losing her first child went on to have three. She continued playing bass in local orchestras and musical groups but eventually discontinued playing to raise the children. They moved the family to Fraser (Clinton Township) in 1968 into a new home and stayed in their “new house” for the rest of their lives. When she was in her 40’s, she began singing with church choirs and taught catechism for 2nd grade first Eucharist students at St. Thecla Catholic Church. She joined the Sweet Adeline’s Barbershop group for a few years and performed with them several times. She also worked as an Occupational Therapist’s Aide at Nightingale Nursing Home and several others for many years.
Pat and Jack had many hobbies together through the years. Camping, Golf, and Travel mainly. They camped from the time they had children until they were no longer able due to age. Pat was also a skilled crafter who’s endeavors included crocheting and sewing. She made many afghans for her friends and grandchildren and sewed many costumes for her grandchildren’s projects and pageants. Pat and Jack also had many lifelong friends whom they spent much time with on trips and jam sessions throughout their lives.
Pat was “Mom” to many of her children’s friends and considered all of them her own kids. She was loving and genuine and had a wonderful heart filled with generosity. She would do anything for anyone in need and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
In later years, Pat was well cared for in her home by her caregivers Susan Partida, Pam McCuen, Beth Dolan, and Marissa Regan. These ladies were very kind to her and she was grateful to them for their excellent care. She also received great assistance from Seasons Hospice. Pat and Jack were both very well cared for in their waning years by Dr. Mouhamad Rihawi, MD.
Pat converted to Catholicism when she and Jack married and became extremely devout. One of the most memorable events in her life was meeting Sister Angelica at the filming of her program when Pat and Jack were traveling.
