It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Cleora Davis, who left us peacefully on September 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Mary, born on January 22, 1933, to James Garrard and Anne (formerly Campbell) Garrard, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a steadfast spirit.
In 1950, Mary welcomed her cherished daughter, Dewinia “Dee.” In 1954, Mary and her beloved husband, James Davis, moved to Michigan, seeking better opportunities for their family. They purchased a home in Warren that would be the framework for many years of happiness and cherished memories. Mary and James shared a remarkable bond, remaining married for sixty-seven years until James’ passing in 2017.
Mary's life was a testament to her boundless love and devotion. She had a passion for sewing, crafting beautiful sweaters, quilts, and outfits for her granddaughter Kimberly’s dolls when she was growing up. Her green thumb was evident in her lovingly tended garden, a space where she found peace and joy. Mary also enjoyed the challenge of word searches, a pastime that brought her much pleasure.
Her caring nature extended beyond her family as she spent many years as a devoted caretaker. Known for her pride, integrity, and fierce independence, Mary lived her life with grace and dignity, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Dee Hale; her granddaughter, Kimberly Borkowski; and her great-grandsons Kirk Borkowski Jr. and Joshua Borkowski. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Annie Garrard; her husband James Davis; her son-in-law James Hale; and her eight siblings. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Mary Cleora Davis will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
