Katherine A. Ritter, age 91 of Fraser, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Father Murray Nursing Center in Center Line, Michigan. She was born April 5, 1923 in Grindstone City, Michigan, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Anna Englehart. For those who knew Katherine, they'll be able to attest to what a great sense of humor she possessed and how often she loved to play the part of a jokester. Ever seeking to reap enjoyment and laughter out of life, the greatest fun was when she brought others along for the ride. Another of her favorite forms of entertainment was enjoyed around the card table playing a rousing game of poker with family and friends alike. Between the card slingin' and conversations, it always made for a memorable time spent. Katherine was also one who liked to travel, especially when it came to some of her treasured and revisited sights,…the Smokey Mountains, Niagara Falls, and the Michigan jewel of Port Austin. Each of these venues held a certain serenity and beauty that would keep drawing her back,…if not in person, then often in her thoughts and memories. Her travel portfolio was filled with many highlights of the places she visited, the people she met, and the pictures she took along the way on her vacationing journeys.Another aspect of life she enjoyed was found in her appetite for reading. Katherine was an avid, voracious reader who devoured two newspapers a day, front-to-back, in an effort to stay abreast of current events and the local happenings. She also loved a good piece of fiction from time to time, just to add a little balance to her reading pleasures. And few will argue that her favorite meal was, definitely, a plate of the infamous "Blackened Catfish" from the folks at Red Lobster. A doting mother and grandmother, she leaves a host of loved ones to treasure her memory and reflect upon the special moments that were created both together and individually. In her own way, she touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the way and will be remembered with fondness and deep affection.Katherine was the beloved mother of Diane (Steve) Gowsoski, Jean Allen, Darlene Novak, William (Judy) Ritter, Kenneth (Debby) Ritter, Luann (Randy) Pinks, the late Walter "Buddy" Ritter, and the late Michael Sternberg. She was the dear grandmother of Melissa (Ron) Snyder, Steve, Rich, Doug, Cheryl, Pam, Kathy, Jason, Jimmy, Jennifer, Joshua, Katie, Justin, and the late Tracy. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.Visitation for Katherine will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from 10am-1pm, with a 12pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan. Please share memories of Katherine at her memory book.
