It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John David Nawrocki, who departed this life on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the age of 91. Jack was born on July 29, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, to Michael and Sophie (nee Fischer) Nawrocki. He was the cherished son in a large, loving family, being one of thirteen children who were raised with deep ties to faith, community, and hard work.
In 1955, John married the love of his life, Genevieve Baka, and together they shared a beautiful, fulfilling marriage of fifty-nine years until her passing in 2013. John and Genevieve raised three wonderful daughters—Debbie, Karen, and Nancy. He remained a steadfast and loving father throughout his life. John's family was his greatest pride, and his love and commitment to them were unwavering. Whether it was attending school events, sporting activities, or simply spending time together, John’s presence was always felt and appreciated. His devotion extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his love for them knew no bounds. He was their biggest cheerleader, attending their events and offering support, encouragement, and guidance whenever needed. John truly was the world’s best Dad, Pa, and Great Pa.
John served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War era, and he was honorably discharged after his service. His commitment to duty and service reflected the core values he carried throughout his life—loyalty, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility.
A man of great faith, John was a long-time parishioner and usher at Our Lady Help of Christians and in 2007 became a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he served with love and dedication. His commitment to his faith extended beyond St. Mark, as he had been an active member of several parishes throughout his life. His unwavering belief in God was a guiding light for him and a source of strength for his family. John found peace knowing that no matter what, he could always find comfort in the Lord.
John was an active and adventurous spirit throughout his life. He had a love for the outdoors that only deepened with age. Whether it was golfing, biking, skiing, boating, ice skating, or hunting, John always found joy in being outside. He shot his first deer, a six-point buck, in his seventies, a testament to his persistence to be active and his love of nature. He also enjoyed camping and gardening, tending to his yard and flowers with the same care and attention he gave to his family. John found peace in nature and spent countless hours appreciating its beauty.
When John wasn’t out exploring the world or tending to his garden, he could often be found enjoying the Golf Channel or watching PBS, where he would relax and engage in the quiet pleasure of his favorite pastimes.
John’s life was defined by his boundless love for his family, his unwavering faith, and his passion for life. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Tom) Stefanek, Karen (David) Trakul, and Nancy Wilcox; his grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa) Stefanek, Julie Stefanek, Colleen (Jeff) Kayl, Lauren (Landon) Corrion, Michael (Anna) Nawrocki, Heather Wilcox, Kelly (Michael) Jewell, and Michael (Jamie) Wilcox; great-grandchildren Liam, Lennon, Reyanna, Karaleigh, Roslin, Charlotte, Jack, Madelyn, Connor, Eleanor, John, Mya, Tyler, and Kaylee; great-great grandchild Levi; his siblings Leroy (Berni) Nawrocki, and Bernadine “Bing” Milkulski; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
