John James Meyer, age 59, grew up in the City of Warren, Michigan. He passed away August 18, 2024 in his sleep. John was born on March 1, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan the son of Peter and Celia (Leavine) Meyer. He figured out that he and his dad shared the same birthday, as he was born in leap year. He graduated from Warren Woods High School in 1983. He played the saxophone in the marching band.
John went on to work at C.J. Towers and then Expeditor’s International, where he was an account manager, processing customs shipments. John had a gifted mind and traveled all around the world programing computers and writing software programs. John’s love of computer’s had him building and fixing many over the years.
John won a first-place award and was published for writing a children’s book called the polka dot handkerchief. He loved the outdoors and working in his large yard. John enjoyed watching game shows, cooking channels, and movies, but never interrupt him during a movie. He enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with family and friends. John would always show up at his mom’s early on holidays so he could have some potato salad before dinner, and take the extra home. He loved going out to breakfast with his mom whenever he could. He would always show up with so many flowers on Mother’s Day from the greenhouse by his home. John loved his family and would always help whenever he was needed, and he will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his mother, Celia Meyer. He was the dearest brother to Carrie Meyer, Colleen (Eli) Stankiewicz, and Jeffrey Meyer, Sr. He was the cherished Uncle and God father of Jeffrey Meyer, Jr. John was preceded in death by his father, Peter Meyer and his sister, Laurie Ann Meyer.
Visitation for John will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 4-8pm at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ mile). Mr. Meyer will lie in state Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren, (formerly St. Edmund’s) until the time of mass at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery in Ubly, Michigan.
