John "Jack" Eldon LaLonde, age 80, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. John was born January 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Joseph LaLonde and the late Lena (nee: Lafave) LaLonde. Jack was raised in Detroit and graduated from Catholic Central High School where he excelled at baseball. He later entered his military service on August 1, 1952 in Detroit, and served as an active duty sailor in the U.S. Navy until April 1, 1956, at which time he was honorably discharged in Portsmouth, Virginia. Jack served as a Radarman, Petty Officer Third Class while aboard the USS Fulmar, the USS Jeffers, and the USS Hambleton. John was proud to have served in the United States Navy alongside many other brave sailors. In addition to his fond memories while in the military, he also enjoyed the many baseball games he played with his fellow sailor teammates.Following his military service, Jack returned to the Detroit area and rejoined the workforce,...in addition to marrying "his bride," Anna, and starting a family. John first worked as a welder for U.S. Crane, and later for Conveyor in Hazel Park, Michigan. His next move would be with United Industrial where he worked as a draftsman and design engineer, all within the automotive supply chain. He went on to co-found Evergreen Fabricators, and ultimately retired from CSC (Chain Supply Corporation).When Jack was not working, he held a passion for golf. At times, just he and his wife would hit the links with Anna commandeering the golf cart. Jack also loved to bowl, square dance, play cards, visit casinos, and socialize with his many friends. Jack and his family also cherished the many memories of getting away to the family cottage in Hammond Bay.Jack remained close to his shipmates from the Navy, helping to organize reunions, maintaining the roster, and writing the "The Hambleton" with reference to the USS Hambleton. He also was a valued member of the Santa Maria Lodge in Warren, where he helped to write and manage the Lodge's newsletter and coordinated volunteer activities. Jack was always willing to give back...he was a devoted man and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.Jack LaLonde was the beloved husband of the late Anna, and the dear father of John (Joyce) LaLonde, Patricia (James) Vanootighem, Daniel (Mary) LaLonde, Barbara LaLonde (the late Randy Zinn), and the late Kathleen LaLonde. He was the loving grandfather of Robert (Sandy Yaroch) Mitchell, Aimee (Kyle) Norman, TJ (Kelly) Witt, and Emily Wolper. Brother of Geraldine (the late Paul) Nicosia, Doris (Dean) Moats, the late Earl (Dora) LaLonde, and the late Donna LaLonde. Visitation for Mr. LaLonde will be held Monday, November 16th from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Mr. LaLonde will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Nick Zukowski.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the charity of your choice.
