Born in Hazel Park to the late Edward and Lulu Green, Harry loved his family and friends more than anything and cherished any time they got to be together. Early in life, Harry attended Hazel Park High School, where he was awarded two college scholarships, one for basketball the other for baseball. Although a natural athlete, after high school in December of 1958, Harry began his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. A career that suited his natural talent for fixing things, which would last him over 45 years. Most of his years were spent working for Limbach Corporation and a shop foreman. Harry was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 80 for over 60 years, something he was very proud of. Harry was a man who always liked to work with his hands. Whether it was doing home repairs, tinkering in the garage or being outside he was happy keeping himself busy with different projects. He took such pride in his yard. He loved to plant his vegetable garden and flowers in the spring. He was also a giant hometown fan, rooting for his beloved Tigers and Lions. Harry’s favorite thing in the world was to spend his time with his family and friends. He enjoyed going out to eat at the local diners and restaurants where he was welcomed by a staff that over time became close friends. He also enjoyed taking drives to his favorite places like Belle Isle, around Lake St. Clair and downtown along the river to watch the boats come in. He loved a good jigsaw puzzle and a good card game. When he visited his family in New York or Florida, they usually had a new game to play to challenge him. Harry’s vacations were always to visit his daughters. He spent every spring in Florida enjoying spring training games and boating. In the fall, he went to upstate New York where he would celebrate his birthday, go apple picking and eat homemade pies. On his trips, he would look forward to visiting his grandchildren, who were his pride and joys. The holidays especially meant a great deal to Harry and were usually spent at his house with his extended family at home in Michigan. Alice, who was like another daughter to him, would prepare the meals. Her ham and deep fried turkey were a couple of his favorites he looked forward to all year. A beloved partner, dad, grandpa, Harry will be missed dearly by all who survive him.
Beloved dad of Linda (Vince) Palmiero, and Tammy (Mark) Skolnick. Devoted grandpa of Max (Shayna) Skolnick, Jake Skolnick, Jessica (Pete) Palmiero and Matthew Palmiero. Dear brother of eleven. Harry is predeceased by the late Betty Winters, his best friend and companion for over 30 years who passed away in March and his extended family, Bernie Winters, Mark Winters, his wife Alice and their son Louie who were all very important in his life.
Memorial visitation Saturday, October 19th at 10am until 12pm with a sharing of memories at 10:30am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoneherr Road, in Warren.
