One of the many things we cherished about him was his exceptional conversational skills. He had a keen interest in current affairs and was a great source of knowledge for his grandchildren, especially when they had questions about history and politics. As a young man in Greece, he served in the Greek military before moving to Canada, where he met his wife. While in Canada, he pursued a career as an electrician and later had the opportunity to come to America. Eventually, he settled in Detroit, Michigan, where he worked for the Woolworth corporation, taking care of the electrical and HVAC systems in their downtown building. When Woolworths closed down, George continued to maintain not only that building but also several other iconic structures in downtown Detroit. From 1970 until 2022 .he played an integral role in the downtown Detroit scene, even starting his own general repair company to ensure the functionality and preservation of many buildings during the challenging times of the late 80s and early 2000s when downtown Detroit faced decline. His dedication was recognized by the Detroit news, who featured him in an article highlighting his efforts to protect and revitalize these historic buildings. George was well-known and respected by business owners in Greektown and the downtown district.
