Doris Lillian Rieger, age 90 of Warren, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren. She was born April 23, 1924 in Detroit, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Anna (nee: Cass) Dettloff. Doris, or known more affectionately to many as Dorothy, enjoyed a varied array of passions in life. She loved her sweets and cigarettes, especially when she was watching one of her favorite game shows,...you guessed it,...Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy. She was also quite the competitor when it came to the game of Yahtzee. Nobody could sling those dice like Dorothy! And she was always giving Ol Lady Luck a run for her money through the thousands of Lotto scratch-off cards she rubbed over the years. Then there was her passion for mashed potatoes. They HAD to be REAL,...and LOADED with REAL BUTTER! From her active side came Dorothy's love of dancing. Really didn't matter where or with whom,...she was gonna dance, and she did it well. She will also be long-revered for her passion when it came to her dashing boys of summer, the Detroit Tigers. She not only loved watching them on TV, but was often buying several tickets and whisking family members away for a day at the baseball park. It is actually one of her grandchildren's favorite memories with Grandma. And another of their favorite memories was Grandma's passion for bowling,...especially the Christmas that Dorothy got them all their own, engraved bowling ball. Not only did she enjoy the sport, but she was going to do her best to usher in the fun and pleasures to her grandbabies, too.Yet, there was a passion Dorothy possessed that stood alone, and that was her association with the Women's Auxiliary of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. She was an avid supporter of the VFW and excelled within her group of fellow members to attain the position of "Cootie,"...a coveted group of ladies within the auxiliary.Doris was the beloved wife of the late Harvey. Dearest mother of Chester (Chari) Dettloff, and the late Carl "Butch" Nihranz. Cherished mother-in-law of Diane Nihranz. Loving grandmother of Sean (Kathy) Dettloff, Michael Dettloff, Kelsy June (fiancé, Ryan Taylor) Dettloff, Carl Nihranz, Corey Nihranz, and Chad Nihranz. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Carter Dettloff, Alayna Dettloff, and Carl "C4" Nihranz. Visitation for Doris will be held Wednesday, March 4th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. Her Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Memorial donations are welcomed to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
