Bernice was born to John and Ida Strobl on March 22, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan.
As a child, she enjoyed, roller-skating, was an avid dancer, and loved visiting Boblo Island. Bernice met her husband, Robert “Bob” Chene upon his return from serving in WWII, at a church dance. They married on October 11, 1947 and during 45 years of marriage went on to have 4 children. Bernice and Robert enjoyed spending quality time with their family and friends, bowling, playing cards, and dancing. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and enjoyed traveling.
Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those around her. Bernice spent many hours volunteering at school, church and the Karmanos Cancer Foundation.
While this is the end of Bernice’s physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her.
Bernice joins her parents, John and Ida, and siblings, Carol, Robert, and Kathleen in Heaven. She is survived by: her siblings, John “Johnny” and Diane (Cal), children, Maureen (John) Andes, Deborah Chene, Pamela Noseda, and Keith (Shelly) Chene, Grandchildren, Kelly (Jason) Kesler, Nicole (Mike) Widrig, Sydney Chene, Great Grandchildren, Nate & Brendan Kesler and Sophie & Hunter Widrig as well as many nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home 32000 Schoenherr Road, Warren, MI on Thursday June 2, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon with a funeral service at Noon, also at the funeral home.
In leu of flowers, Bernice’s wishes were to have donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
