Pedro Gauna Garcia of Wapato, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Parkside Nursing Home in Union Gap. He was born on December 12, 1917 to Juan Garcia and Petra Gauna-Garcia in General Nuevo Leon Teran, Mexico.
Pedro married Leonor Blanco on June 24, 1940 and, before her death, Pedro and Leonor celebrated their 50-year golden anniversary. Pedro and Leonor raised their 13 children and they were very proud of all their children and their accomplishments. Pedro worked as a farm laborer at Elmer Kanzler Farms from 1967 to his retirement. He was known for being a very hard worker and would work from sun-up to sun-down to get the job done! During his spare time Pedro loved to garden, however, his favorite time was spent with his family and his grandchildren.
Pedro is survived by his sons Juan (Senaida) Garcia of Yakima and Jose David Garcia of Wapato; his daughters Delia (Francisco) Alvarez and Petra (Jose) Murillo both of Florida; Maria Zuniga of Wapato, Imelda Garcia of Richland, and Alicia (Raymond) DeLeon of Union Gap; and his brother Fortino (Tomasa) Garcia of Texas. Pedro is also survived by his 55 grandchildren; 135 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren.
Pedro was preceded in death by both his parents Juan and Petra; his wife Leonor Blanco Garcia; and sister Concepcion Rangel; and daughters Paula Rosales, Beatriz Carrillo; Andrea Sanchez and Cristela Garcia; and brother-in-law Oscar Rangel.
Visitation will be from 7-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
