Harold Eyle Sapuay

Harold Eyle Sapuay courageously passed away on Saturday February 9th, 2013 in Wapato. He put up a fight all the way to the end, surrounded by his loved ones. He left us with a big smile on his face. Harold was born December 26, 1946 in Seattle, Washington. He was adopted by Larry and Caroline Sapuay.

Harold graduated from Wapato High School in 1964. His high school superlative he was voted the “best looking guy” of his class. Harold was a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis in 197 He served two years at Chu Lai, Vietnam and then was honorably discharged.

Harold worked many different jobs-A Jack of all trades. He worked for Yakama Nation Heritage Center, Yakama Facility Management, Yakama Nation Enterprises and Wheeler King Mountain. Harold was artistic and had a talent for wood working projects. He spent a lot of time fishing-big fish or little Fish, Harold love to fish. After 5 years of dating Lois James, Harold proposed to her on Valentine’s Day 1992 on a billboard and then they were wed on April 17, 1992.

Harold and Lois opened their home to foster care. In time they were blessed with raising Eugene Jack Jr.

Harold also loved to fish and was also a pool player and participated in many leagues. His personality and lifestyle brought him many friends.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Toppenish; sons, James Sapauy of Warms Springs, OR, Gino Sapuay Lister of Boston, Mass and Eugene Jack Jr. of Toppenish; daughter Daphne Ohms of Seattle, WA; sisters, Darlene Eyle, Marilyn Axtell, Salina Beard and Tina Ohms; brother, Robert Eyle; many nieces and nephews that called him “Uncle Dad”; numerous grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Larry and Caroline Sapuay; sisters Ethel Sapuay, Eliza Ohms and Reeva Ohms Newborn; brothers, “Tommy” Albert Ohms, Gerald Eyle Sr., “Tony” Benny Eyle, Johnny Ohms, Galen Ohms, Steve Eyle, and Wayne Ohms; “ Very special dad” John Eyle Jr; and biological mother Maria “Heidi” Renteria Falb.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday February 13, 2013 at all Nations Center at 10:00 am in Wapato. Burial will follow at Yemowat Cemetery.
