Shirley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 18, 1939 to Ethel and Matthew Mosley. She was the 2nd of four siblings (Glenda, Shirley, Milton and Elwood). While in Philadelphia, she met and later married Fred Hubbard. After relocating to Washington, DC, they welcomed a daughter, Lisa Renee and a son, Kirk Lamar.
Shirley’s career as a Patient Advocate in Radiology began at the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C. In 1988, Shirley received a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Howard University. A year later, she married Johnny T. Wray and they relocated to Lithonia, GA where she would spend the next 29 years creating new hobbies and friendships. She eventually retired as a Patient Advocate from Emory University Hospital. After the death of her husband Johnny in 2016 and with her health starting to decline, Shirley relocated to Maryland in 2018, where she lived with her son Kirk and Daughter-in-Love Kim. Kirk became her dutiful Caregiver, ensuring that she was well loved, taken care of, and wanted for nothing.
Shirley was such a radiant person. There was no such thing as a stranger, only friends that she had not met yet. When you met her, she made you feel welcomed. There was something about her smile and her voice, that could just calm and soothe you. She had a way of just lighting up a room when she entered it. If you ever had the pleasure of visiting her home during the Christmas holiday, you would surely be delighted by all the wonderful and festive Christmas trees and towns displayed throughout her home. Shirley also opened a catering business, Taste of Elegance, offering delicious foods for any occasion large or small. Some of her hobbies included horseback riding, sewing, architectural photography, and decorating custom luxury dollhouses.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her Son Kirk Hubbard, Daughter-in-Love Kim Hubbard, Daughter Lisa Hubbard, Brother Elwood (Butch) Mosley, Sister-in-Love Eileen Mosley, Grandsons Raphae Hubbard and Khari Green, Granddaughter Raven Hubbard-Gray, 7 Great Grandchildren (Saniyah, Semaj, Sa’Kari, Sanai, Samir, Karter and King), Niece Danielle Mosley, Nephew Eric Sample, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Special Thank You to Andrea Easy of Three Angels Assisted Living, who took such great care of Shirley during her last few months of life.
