Paul Ronald Rossi Sr., age 59, a resident of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Paul, who fought a courageous battle against lung cancer, passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Paul was born January 10, 1955 in Chelsea, MA. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Phyllis Rossi and brother, Robert Rossi Jr. Surviving siblings include Deedee Chor, Richard Rossi, Ronald Rossi, Judy Wenzel and Deborah Bloomquist. Paul is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Rossi and their 5 children Robert Rossi III, Jennifer Rossi, Paul Rossi Jr., Jason Bethea, Janette Badia and 13 grandchildren.
Paul proudly joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 to go fight in Vietnam and was sorely disappointed when soon after he entered the service Nixon stopped sending troops. He was rated as a PN1 Personnelman in the TAR program and assigned to various East Coast duty stations retiring after 20 years of service as a Petty Officer in 1999 out of West Palm Beach, FL Naval Reserve Center. Paul was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, and four Navy Achievement Medals among others. He also enjoyed a four year career with St. Lucie County Sherriff’s Department working as booking officer at the St. Lucie County Jail.
Moving to St. Mary’s County Maryland in 2002, Paul became employed with Information Spectrum Inc., later becoming Anteon supporting the PMA205 program at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. In 2005, he was appointed the first Technology Integrator/Trainer for St. Mary’s County Public Schools. Paul truly enjoyed training school staff members in technology and was always willing to address and find a solution to any technology problem he was presented with. His focus during the last few years was on the management of the interactive white boards countywide. Paul retired July 1, 2014 from St. Mary’s County Public Schools.
Paul was a graduate of Braintree High School class of 1972. He obtained his Associate in Science Degree: Computer Information/System Analysis from Beach Community College in 2002 and was currently in his junior year of completing his Bachelors of Science in Computer Studies from University of Maryland University College. Paul also held various Microsoft certifications.
Although Paul accomplished many things during his lifetime, his true passions in life were his family, friends, and people in general. When it came to kids, he was everybody’s Pop-Pop. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting (from deer to squirrel), fishing, cooking, living the country life (including raising chickens, turkeys and rabbits), along with teaching and sharing his knowledge. Paul is a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, MD. He was great at giving advice and could solve any problem, especially with computers. He was not only ours but every one’s go-to-man. He infused everything he did with humor; and his laughter and the laughs he gave to us will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be held at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland on Saturday September 27, 2014 from 10am to 12pm, where the service will begin at 12 noon. Burial will take place at Royal Palm Memorial Park in West Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday October 4, 2014.
