She was born in White Plains on July 25, 1928, to the late Philip Warren Richards and Hazel Berry Willett Richards. Her forebears lived in and near Charles County for hundreds of years.
After graduating from La Plata High School in 1948, she worked for a local engineering firm, then at the Navy Yard, and then at the Census Bureau. She won many awards for her good work for the Government.
In 1950 she married George Leroy DeMarr, and they lived on his farm in White Plains throughout their 62 years of married life. Mr. DeMarr survives her along with their two children, George Leroy DeMarr, Jr., and Phyllis Ann Atkinson, and five grandchildren: George C. DeMarr, Cassie M. DeMarr, Shelby G. DeMarr, Robert W. Atkinson, and William L. Atkinson.
Also surviving are her sisters Agnes R. Langley, Alice R. Olmsted, and Phyllis Regina Grimes, and many nieces and nephews. Her sister Elsie Louise Richards and her grandson Michael Andrew DeMarr predeceased her.
She enjoyed gardening. She adored her family, and she was generous to them and to her friends.
Visitation will be at the Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, on Friday, April 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the Huntt Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf.
Pallbearers will be her son, George L. DeMarr, Jr., her son-in-law, Dennis M. Atkinson, her grandsons, George C. DeMarr, Robert W. Atkinson, and William L. Atkinson, and her nephew Brian K. Grimes.
