Joan Marie Hewitt

Joan Hewitt died August 24, 2011 at her residence in LaPlata, Maryland at the age of 56. Joan was born to Henry and Semie Foster on March 18th, 1955 in Kingston Jamaica. She is the eldest of 3 children, followed by siblings Peter and Sonia. Joan attended Providence Prep School, Arden High School and Durham Commercial School in Kingston Jamaica. As one who always strived to excel in all subjects, she was a top student and remained head of her class in most subjects. In 1972 Joan and her family moved to the USA. She worked for Morgan Stanley and the UN while attending New York Community College, and there she would obtain an Associates Degree. While attending school, she would meet her future husband Godfrey Hewitt and the two would be married on May 19th. 1979. Within the same year, Joan and Godfrey moved from New York to Maryland. Here she obtained a job with the IMF, where she would work for the next 30 years. Major milestones that followed the couple would be the birth of 2 children. Nadya who was born in July of 1985 and Meghan who followed in October of 1989. Joan will always be remembered for her steadfast faith, a kind heart and the infinite love and support she gave to her friends and family. She is a devoted wife, mother and friend. Her impeccable attention to detail and organization skills were always appreciated and served as the core that held her family together. She leaves to mourn, children: Meghan, Nadya and Alica, her husband Godfrey, nieces Sofia and Sara as well as immediate family Sonia, Peter and Henry. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. at The Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, Maryland. Funeral service will be held at New Life Church, 9690 Shepherd Creek Place, LaPlata, Maryland on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 10:00 am.
