Amanda was born July 19, 1994 at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, FL to parents Daniel and Patricia Baker and big brother Casey Baker.
Her childhood was one filled with love and adventure. By 18, Amanda had already lived in Florida, Connecticut, New Mexico, England, Hawaii, and Maryland. One summer in high school, she also backpacked across Europe, exploring sights both ancient and new, each one more exciting than the next.
Amanda graduated from Full Sail University in 2015 with a degree in creative writing. At first a quirky, at times even morbid writer, she later discovered a passion for children’s storytelling, due in no small part to another discovery in her life.
After helping out just one day at a local daycare, she decided she would become a teacher, which is exactly what she did. For ages ranging from newborns to high school seniors, she curated a welcoming, creative, and safe environment for students to not only learn but also grow.
On May 27, 2022, Amanda married longtime boyfriend, Michael White, in a dreamlike wedding held within a historic Chicago firehouse.
On their honeymoon, the two embarked upon a culinary journey across America, exploring in-depth the sights, sounds, and eats of Las Vegas, New York City, and New Orleans.
Her favorite color was pink, which served as the primary color for her wedding, but she’d tell you it was blue if asked.
She adored scary movies, especially classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street, even if she had to sleep with the lights on after watching one.
She was infatuated with furry animals, especially big dog breeds like her teddy-bear St. Bernard, Journey, and her eccentric pit bull, Sammy, as well as her feisty chinchillas, Ziggy and Gordon.
Most of all, she loved her family. And for her to consider you family is an honor cherished by those lucky enough to see, hear, and feel the love she gave.
Amanda will be deeply missed by so many. She was a dedicated, compassionate teacher to her students; an ecstatic friend, capable of creating lifelong memories simply by being present; a protective sister to her childhood-bodyguard brother; a loving daughter to parents who gave her so many great memories, she remembered them all as if they happened yesterday; and a wife so precious and wholly good, one would think she jumped straight out of a fairy tale.
Amanda loved and will forever be loved.
A visitation for Amanda will be held on June 24, from 2PM to 4PM, at Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Rd, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
She will then be laid to rest in Ocean View, Delaware, alongside her grandparents and great-grandparents, outside a peaceful, sunlit church her family built.
